　　This letter comes to you from one of your students.In it, some opinions are put forward for you to reflect upon.

　　As you know, our students are the main customers of the university canteen. But unfortunately, we dont find the service there satisfying sometimes.The food is not as nutritious as it should be. As a result, some of us become thinner and weaker at university.Besides, sometimes the canteen people just bring us steamed bread with their dirty bare hands.And whats more, the fare is also a little higher at university.

　　Some people may argue that measures have been taken and things are improving there.For instance, Ic cards have taken the place of money in the canteed, and the attitude of the service people is also changing.But in my opinon, progress is not so quick and thorough.

　　To be belief, though a bit dissatisfied with the present canteen conditions,I do believe that, with the efforts of all people concerned, we can solved the problems there.

Although failure happens to everyone, attitudes towards failure are various. Some people don’t think their failure is a very important thing at all. So they pay no attention to it.

　　As a result, they will have the same failure a period later. Some people think themselves are fools and lose their hearts in everything after they get a failure. Consequently, they spend their time and energy on useless things and they may really be fools as they have thought.

　　Other people are quite different from the two kinds of people mentioned above. Instead of being distressed and lost, they draw a lesson from every failure and become more experienced. After hard work, they will be successful in the end. It is said that failure is the mother of success. Success will be gained after times of failures so long as we are good at drawing lesson from our failures. In my opinion, failure is not a bad thing, the really bad thing is taking a failure as failure or even lose our heart after failure.

　　Born in 1935, Mr. Smith spent his childhood in a mining village in a state. When he was a child, he hated school but had a talent for writing and he wrote his first poems. After his leaving school, he did his first job in a village shop for six years. During this period, he wrote a large number of poems in accordance with his own experiences and mental activities. Later, he left for S city in 1957 and published poems and his first novel. Delightfully, his works were popular when they published and he became a famous writer at once. However, he found that his life was meaningless though he led a luxurious life and started becoming depressed. Consequently, he first committed suicide unsuccessfully in 1960.

　　Later, Mr. Smith got married when he was 30, but his family life was not so happy because the couple did not have a common goal in marriage. Thus, he divorced his wife quickly and moved to another state to start a new life. But his works lost earlier popularity as time elapsed. Hence, he had to find another way to make a living. When he was fighting for his new life at the age of 32, Cupid fired another arrow at him—he fell in love with a girl at first sight. He ran after her fanatically. At last, they had a love child and moved back to his home state in 1972.

　　However, there is a crook in the lot of every one. With the growth of his son, Mr. Smith found that his life was so empty and boring in that he could not write any poems any longer, let alone published them. As the result, he committed suicide in 1975, at the age of 40.

Besides, colleges have encouraged students to spend more time on the study of English; while on the contrary, on campus we seldom have Chinese classes. Limited concern has been put on the learning of Chinese. What's more, it is natural to neglect the study of Chinese due to the wrong impression that as native speakers, we all have a good command of Chinese. This phenomenon will do harm to the development of our culture in the long run.

　　Measures should be taken to improve the situation. To begin with, government should pay more attention to the promotion of Chinese culture so that people, young and old, can learn more and be proud of our own language. 　　Our English teacher, Emmy, came into the classroom with some test papers under her arm. She wore a smile on her face, and then she said, “OK. The test will begin. I hope that you will try your best to do it well. If you are careful enough, you will get a good result.” At first, I felt a little nervous. But when I heard her words, I calmed down. I said to myself, “I can do better than before.”·

　　At the beginning of the test, I came across some difficult problems. I did not know what to do. I was very worried. I kept saying to myself, “I must calm down. Then I can work them out.” A few minutes later I worked these problems out. I felt very happy.

　　Then I went on working on my test. Thirty minutes later, I finished my test.· I thought I could get more than 97 points for this test because the questions were not very hard. But when I saw my points, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

　　I only got 93 points. I was very surprised. I made some careless mistakes in the English test. I thought hard but I only got 93 points. There are two reasons. Firstly, although I worked hard, I didn’t work hard enough.

　　Other students work harder than I did. Secondly, I wasn’t careful enough. I am a careless girl. I think if I can become a careful girl, I will get more points. I believe I can. I will try my best to learn English well.
